Health, Safety and Environment
CablesOne has a long-standing HSE commitment to the highest standards for the health and safety of our employees, clients, customers, contractors and visitors as well as to the protection of the environment in the communities in which we live and work.
Our Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Management System is an essential part of the way we do business. It is modeled after ISO 14001 standards which means that CablesOne is accountable for all HSE policies. This in turn ensures rigorous HSE standards throughout the company. The CablesOne HSE Management System defines the principles by which we conduct our operations locally in Brunei Darussalam and regionally.
Policy Statement, standards, and accountability
It is the responsibility of Management to apply all HSE policies rigorously throughout the company. CablesOne captures its own performance data using an online software system. This performance data is consolidated so that various reports can be generated. The CablesOne system is accessible by all employees and monitors the reporting of HSE events. Risk reports are produced which facilitate investigations and audits. The software system also tracks HSE training and facilitates a wide range of HSE reports and data analysis.
CablesOne actively follows the two fundamental principles of Health and Safety as mandated by ISO 14001 standards, which are Compliance and Intervention. Compliance means that we stick to the rules and policies that we have set out no matter what and Intervention means that anytime we see something unsafe then we stop it from happening.
Global Stewardship describes CablesOne approach to managing the environmental impact and risks associated with our operations while addressing the social needs of the communities where we live and work. Our long-term business success depends on our ability to continually improve the quality of our services and products while protecting people and the environment.
Sharing Best Practices
CablesOne commits itself to share best practices through HSE Technical Papers and strongly believes in educating employees with respect to Health, Safety and the Environment. Companies in Brunei are required to have an HSE officer by law and as a result, there is an ever-present demand for well-qualified HSE officers, which is likely to 'stay and increase'.
CablesOne encourages interested employees to sit for the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) qualification. There is a real demand for safety officers who hold a NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC).
The new NEBOSH Environmental Awareness at Work qualification introduces employees to environmental issues and the role they play in improving organizational environmental performance. This introductory qualification is aimed at anyone who needs a basic understanding of environmental issues in the workplace. It provides a general awareness of environmental issues and can be taken by employees at all levels within the Company. Topics covered include, but are not limited to: waste management, environmental management systems, sustainable development and impact risk assessments.
